Greater London Authority: Přední odborníci na změny klimatu se účastní Fóra na londýnské radnici

18. května 2007 | Greater London Authority
Sir David King, Chief Scientific Adviser to Government and Gerry Acher, Chair of the London Climate Change Partnership (LCCP) will today (Friday 18th May 2007) join a group of leading environmental experts in addressing the London Climate Change Partnership Forum at City Hall.

The London Climate Change Partnership Forum is bringing together a wide range of stakeholders from across London who will focus on climate change adaptation issues, risks and opportunities. The Forum will address how London’s changing climate will affect all sectors in the capital and will focus on the action that is needed so that appropriate measures can be taken to enable London’s resilience, sustainability and profit. In addition, the event will provide an overview of the London Climate Change Partnership’s productivity, objectives and upcoming work.

The event is an opportunity for the London Climate Change Partnership’s stakeholders to lead discussion on how London can prepare itself adequately for climate change. It also aims to identify the barriers facing them in their work as well as encouraging them to input into the London Climate Change Partnership’s efforts in preparing London for its future climate.

Mayor of London Ken Livingstone said: ‘’This is an important forum which is addressing the risks, issues and opportunities involved in climate change adaptation and I commend the continuing good work of the London Climate Change Partnership. Continuing climate change means that London will experience increasing risks of flooding, overheating and drought. The London Climate Change Partnership exists to help London prepare for these impacts. As was overwhelmingly evident at the C40 summit in New York this week, we cannot sit back and start thinking about adapting to climate change tomorrow, we need to act now”.

Sir David King, Chief Scientific Adviser to Government said: “Climate change is a critical global issue, but many of the ways we can tackle it start at an individual or local community level. Local Government has a key part to play in helping to ensure action on climate change.
‘I congratulate the London Climate Change Partnership for its efforts to encourage action on climate change, but also for capitalising on the economic opportunities that may open up to London as a result, particularly in terms of developing new energy technologies.”

Gerry Acher, Chair of the London Climate Change Partnership said: ‘Securing a sustainable and prosperous future for London means our development and actions will need to be resilient to our future climate. The London Climate Change Partnership has been the driving force behind improving Adaptation awareness and guidance for London's sectors. Today's Forum event begins a crucial next step in engaging Londoners in preparing for a future climate, and ensuring that London leads the way as the city of choice to live and work.'

Other speakers attending and addressing today’s forum include Tim King, Environment Agency, Andrew Eagles, Sustainable Homes and Jane Milne, Association of British Insurers.
