European Green Party: Paříž se odklání od fosilních investic
22. března 2015 | European Green Party
The City of Paris has committed to distancing itself from investments in sectors that contribute to climate change.
On Monday, the Paris Council started the ball rolling by adopting an EELV resolution that targets two funds: The City of Paris Endowment Fund and The Paris City Councilors Pension Fund.
“Paris is heading towards divestment from fossil fuel industries” says Jérôme Gleizes, Green City Councilor. “A few months ahead of the COP 21 Conference on Climate Change, Paris is sending out a strong message, by becoming the first European city to adopt this new instrument for energy transition.”
The decision was inspired by “350.org”, an NGO leading the international campaign for divestment from fossil fuels. By adopting this resolution, the City of Paris has joined 180 other institutions, such as the City of San Francisco, already engaged in this phenomenon, having divested a total of over $50 billion. According to David Belliard, Co-Chair of the Green Group of Paris (GEP), “we are now only at the beginning of this process, and hope that Paris will spearhead this campaign. Our goal is that in the future, the City of Paris will only invest in industries that are engaged in the fight against climate change.”
