Greens/EFA: Hlas pro přírodu je úspěchem pro lidi, planetu i odpovědnou politiku

12. července 2023 | Greens/EFA
Today, the European Parliament adopted the European Parliament's position for the negotiations on the Nature Restoration Law. The EPP’s motion for a complete rejection of the European Commission's proposal did not find a majority. The negotiations of the European Parliament with the Council and the European Commission on the Nature Restoration Law and central building block of the Green Deal for the protection of climate, biodiversity, livelihoods and food security can start soon.

Terry Reintke MEP, President of the Greens/EFA Group in the European Parliament, comments: “This is a success, for nature and for the climate. The Nature Restoration law is essential to save nature, is good for climate, biodiversity and food security and good for the economy. We welcome that a constructive position has found a majority and has voted for the path of responsible politics.

“The disinformation campaign and attempts to derail the Nature Restoration Law from the EPP leadership and their far-right friends has failed. Now is the time to roll up our sleeves and return to constructive and consensus based politics. There is no time to lose in saving nature. Our group will work in constructive cooperation with all democratic groups to get the Nature Restoration Act on track as soon as possible."

Philippe Lamberts MEP, President of the Greens/EFA Group in the European Parliament, comments: “The greatest threat to our agriculture and our livelihoods is climate change, the dramatic death of species and the destruction of nature. This has also been understood by over 100 major companies, who have issued a dramatic appeal calling for the Save Nature Act and its implementation."

Unfortunately, the EPP leadership attempted to torpedo the vital legislation needed to stop this threat for the sake of their election campaign. The EPP leadership is pursuing a very literal scorched Earth policy.

“We cannot stop the worst effects of climate change without restoring and supporting nature. Droughts, fires and floods are destroying our fields and soils and endangering our food security. That is why today’s vote marks the chance for Europe to restore our nature and support people and planet over the interests of big-agricultural lobbies."

More:
Greens/EFA Group Presidents Terry Reintke and Philippe Lamberts and shadow rapporteur on the NRL, Jutta Paulus, are holding a brief press point outside the Hemicycle chamber in Strasbourg now.

Representatives of leading companies, including Ikea, Nestlé and Coca-Cola, demand in an open letter that the Renaturation Law be passed as soon as possible.
