Švédské předsednictví v Radě EU: Tři otázky pro ministra životního prostředí Andrease Carlgrena
23. července 2009 | Švédské předsednictví v Radě EU
Three questions to Minister for the Environment Andreas Carlgren ahead of the informal meeting of environment ministers in Åre on 24 and 25 July.
The meeting of European environment ministers that you are hosting here in Åre will be starting shortly. What are you thinking about right now?
“Right now, I am thinking that this is a fantastic place to hold a meeting. I have really looked forward to, and prepared myself for, this meeting. With this beautiful weather, it feels all the more exciting to be here and experience all the excellent preparations and good organisation. But it is also an important meeting for moving discussions on an eco-efficient economy and climate change forward.”
What does an eco-efficient economy mean for you?
“It is about making the economy greener. Combining economic growth with environmentally sustainable development. And how we can use our resources more efficiently.”
Finally, how do this meeting and these issues relate to people’s day-to-day lives?
“It is important to gather all our strength now ahead of the major UN Climate Change Conference in December. You could look at this meeting as a training camp before the final sprint to the summit in Copenhagen. Then, when we succeed in reaching a climate change agreement, that will affect us all. The negative effects of climate change will be curbed, more companies will want to invest in climate-friendly products and more new jobs will be created. This work will form the way out of both the climate crisis and the economic crisis.”
